“The Hobbit” Movie Trailer Released

The first glimpse of Peter Jackson’s prequel to the “Lord of the Rings” films, “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” was finally released this week, giving fans of the franchise a taste of what to expect when the first part of the film hits theaters about a year from now.

The Hobbit trailer shows Bilbo Baggins writing a letter to Frodo about his adventures during his younger days. The clip then segues to a young Bilbo and his adventures along with the wizard Gandalf, among others. Elf queen Galadriel played by Cate Blanchett is also seen in the trailer, as well as the hugely popular Gollum, played by Andy Serkis.

The release of the trailer on Wednesday came almost a decade to the day that the first of the three “Lord of the Rings” films was released in the United States on December 19, 2001. The Hobbit will be a reunion for some of the stars of the “Rings” movies, including Blanchett, Serkis, Ian McKellen, and Elijah Wood. The two-part epic will be launched a year apart, with the second film scheduled for a December 2013 release.
