‘The Pillars of the Earth’ Television Adaptation Premiers July 23

pillars_of_the_earthFans of best-selling author Ken Follet will be thrilled to know that the television adaptation of one of his most popular books will start July 23 in the United States on Starz channel and Canada on The Movie Channel.

The Pillars of the Earth will be an eight-hour miniseries to be shown in six consecutive weeks. It is a story revolving around characters involved in building a cathedral in Kingsbridge, England.

The cast includes Ian McShane, Donald Sutherland, Rufus Sewell, Matthew Macfedyen, Allison Pill, Sarah Parish, David Oakes, Hayley Atwell, Sam Claflin and Eddie Redmayne.

The 1989 novel where the television series was based become Follet’s best-selling book. It ranked number 33 in BBC‘s Big Read list and has been selected in Oprah’s Book Club. It sold 6 million copies in the US and continues to sell 100,000 copies in paperback edition annually.

A sequel, World Without End, was released in 2008 and shot to number one spot in the New York Times bestseller list.
