The Plot to Kill Obama

24 is a TV series filled with well-drawn subsidiary characters and rapid-fire surprises. American History X on the other hand is a violent film on a momentous topic. Create a good combination of these two, put a little spice, include Tina Fey, Will Smith and some rock stars on the cast and you have a film on Barack Obama’s assassination plot.

That’s the Hollywood version. This one is different.

Two skinheads, both white supremacists, hoped Obama’s assassination would be the grand finale to one of the worst massacres in US history.

A neo-Nazi plot to assassinate Barack Obama and hurt 102 black people has been discovered by US government agents days before the US presidential election.

Daniel Cowart, 20, and Paul Schlesselman, 18, were arrested in Tennessee on Wednesday and charged with possession of firearms, threats against a presidential candidate running and conspiring to rob a gun store, the Department of Justice said.

The men planned to go on a killing spree across the US with Mr Obama, the Democratic nominee who is poised to become the country’s first black president, as their final target.

The plot is understood to center on Tennessee where Martin Luther King was assassinated exactly 40 years ago.

But the couple — who had also tried robbing a house — had raised suspicions and were arrested by deputies from the Crockett County Sheriff’s Office. Cops took hold of a rifle, a shotgun and three pistols.

It was only then that the scale of their plan became known.

They planned to shoot 88 black people there — and decapitate another 14. The numbers 88 and 14 are symbolic in the white supremacist community — 88 represents HH — the eighth letter of the alphabet — and Heil Hitler.

The number 14 refers to a supremacist slogan containing 14 words: “We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children.”
