Japan’s famed jeweler, Ginza Tanaka, has created the worlds’ most expensive Christmas tree. It may be small but this tree costs $1.6 million.

The 24k gold tree is decorated with more than 240 jewels including diamonds and pearls, and weighs more than 21 kilograms.

This tree serves as a reminder for people to keep the holiday shopping spirit alive even in times of economic turmoil.

“Economic sentiment is sluggish. But, at least in this store, we want people to feel a gorgeous atmosphere,” a store official told the Daily Telegraph.

The glittering pine will remain on display at the Ginza Tanaka jewellery shop in Shinsaibashi, Osaka until Christmas Day after which it will be available for purchase.

The Japs are full of surprises!
