Thunder Rip Grizzlies, Advance to Conference Finals

Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant is not the NBA’s two-time defending scoring champ for nothing, and the Memphis Grizzlies learned it the hard way on Sunday, when the 22-year-old former University of Texas standout led his team to a 105-90 victory in Game 7 of the Western Conference semifinals.

Durant exploded for 39 points one game after he was held to 11 points in the Thunder’s Game 6 loss on Friday as OKC advanced to the Conference Finals against the well-rested Dallas Mavericks. While Durant provided the points, Russell Westbrook took care of everything else. Westbrook had 14 points, 14 assists, and 10 rebounds, while effectively orchestrating the Thunder offense. James Harden added 17 points on 4-for-8 shooting from the three-point territory for Oklahoma.

The Grizzlies matched the Thunder’s intensity in the first ten minutes of the game, but slowly faded away as their best playoff showing in franchise history ended in a lopsided defeat. Mike Conley had 18 points while Zach Randolph added 17 for Memphis, which had never won a playoff game prior to this year.
