Tobey Maguire Refutes ‘The Hobbit’ Casting Rumors
Tobey Maguire, who was recently rumored to have been chosen by director Guillermo del Toro‘s camp to play the main character in his film adaptation of The Lord of the Rings prequel The Hobbit, has responded to the casting rumors, saying that, well, they were just rumors.
“I have not met with del Toro. We don’t have any near future plans,” Maguire said. “I don’t know if something got misconstrued or miscommunicated but the source (entertainment Web site Latino Review) was not accurate at all.”
However, the 34-year-old actor, best known for his role as the mutant superhero in all three Spider-Man films, said he is open to the idea of taking on a part in The Hobbit. A fan of both del Toro and The Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson, Maguire said that if he was indeed part of the project, “I certainly wouldn’t take myself out of the conversation,” but as the situation stands, he reiterated that he hasn’t talked to anybody tied to the project.
