Topless coffee shop opens in Maine
If you happen to be in central Maine, don’t forget to stop by the Grand View Topless Coffee Shop.
Servers are topless in this java hut which opened its doors yesterday on a busy road in Vassalboro.
Up the entrance ramp to the front door, a sign read “Over 18 only,” while another at the door said, “No cameras, no touching, cash only.”
On Tuesday, two men sipped coffee at a booth while three topless waitresses and a bare-chested waiter stood nearby.
Susie Wiley, 23, has worked in coffee shops since she was a teen. She said she went for the job because it’s “something different.”
Does she feel exploited?
“No, I love it. I find it very empowering, not degrading,” she told the Kennebec Journal adding that customers had been “completely respectful.”
“We’ve had men, women, couples — all walks of life,” she said.
Grand View raised the anger of dozens of residents when it went before the town planning board last month. According to them, this is the type of business the town of Vassalboro doesn’t need.
