Tour de France 2009
The 96th Tour de France starts July 4 with a challenging 9.6-mile prologue in the hilly streets and hairpin turns of Monaco—a small sovereign city-state located in South Western Europe. The race will end in Paris on July 26, covering total distance of 2,175 miles.
The tour is divided into 21 stages. There are 10 flat stages, seven mountain stages, one medium mountain stage, two individual time-trials and one team time-trial. There are two rest days.
Seven-time Tour champion Lance Armstrong is back from retirement, four years after his last victory. Teammate Alberto Contador, the 2007 winner and a top pre-race favorite, returns after Astana wasn’t allowed to compete last year.
