Two-hour shark fight caught on video
Last June, Ryan McInnis, Craig Clasen, Brian Head and Cameron Kirkconnell boated 60 miles into the Gulf of Mexico for spear fishing. Photographer D.J. Struntz dove alongside them. He was working with McInnis on a video about the sport.
The expedition went as planned until a 12-foot tiger shark approached the group. Clansen took on the formidable predator when he spotted it was about to attack a dive partner, resulting in a two-hour combat that ended in the shark’s death.
They’ve engaged in spear fishing for years and frequently encountering sharks. But this time was different.
After CNN aired the story, host Rob Marciano said the story sparked “public outcry” amongst some viewers who felt the killing was unnecessary.
