UEFA Champions League: Chelsea vs. Inter Milan (2nd Leg)
Premier League side Chelsea takes on Italy’s Inter Milan tonight at Stamford Bridge with a place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League at stake.
This fixture will be Jose Mourinho‘s first at the Bridge since he was sacked in 2007 and the eccentric Portuguese tactician is sure to receive a hero’s welcome.
Mourinho, who won six trophies in three years at Chelsea, forged a strong bond with fans during his time in England, and says he is certain to come back in the EPL in the near future.
On February 24, he got one over his former club as the Nerazzurri defeated Chelsea 2-1. Salomon Kalou equalized for the West Londoners in the 51st minute before Esteban Cambiasso scored the winning goal.
Inter’s primary edge here is that they have an established starting lineup, with most of their key players available. However, the Blues have failed to make it to the semi-finals only once in the past six years and reached the European final in 2008, so I guess this is really an interesting matchup.
The match kicks-off at 19:45 GMT.
UPDATE: Samuel Eto’o’s 79th minute goal earned Inter Milan a 1-0 victory over Chelsea (3-1 on aggregate) and a place in the Champions League quarterfinals.
