UEFA Champions League: Liverpool vs. Fiorentina

Nothing left to play for, yet a lot to prove for Liverpool in this match. The Reds’ hopes of Champions League glory bit the dust in Lyon last month and are destined for the Europa League. Fiorentina, on the other hand, is already assured of progression into the next round.

A point should be enough for the Italian side to secure top spot in Group E, provided Lyon do not defeat Debrecen by four clear goals in the other game.

It appears that tonight’s fixture will provide Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez with the chance to let his lesser-known players in on the action. Fernando Torres returns from a groin injury but starts on the bench.

The match kicks-off at 20:45 CET.

UPDATE: Liverpool’s CL campaign ended with a disappointment rather than a bang as they lost their final Group E match at home to Fiorentina.

Alberto Gilardino scored in injury time to give the Italian club a 2-1 victory and first place in its cluster.
