UEFA Champions League: Manchester United vs. AC Milan
It’s just minutes until the eagerly anticipated UEFA Champions League round of 16 kicks-off with the exciting prospect of football’s most popular teams battling it out.
The Red Devils do not boast a very good record against AC Milan, having failed to score on all four trips to the San Siro when they face the Italian giants. The last time Manchester United met the Rossoneri, in 2007, they lost 3-0 in the Champions League semi-final, second leg. On that game Kaka, Clarence Seedorf and Alberto Gilardino scored for the Italian side.
But the biggest question is will David Beckham make it into the starting XI? The 34-year-old midfielder has been on the bench for the last two Serie A matches, but he could substitute some players in the attacking midfield line-up.
Should the Red Devils make the quarter-final, it will be for the fourth consecutive time they’ve got that far, whilst Milan’s last CL run ended at this stage during the 2007-08 term when Arsenal knocked them out.
The match kicks-off at 20:45 CET (2:45 p.m. ET).
UPDATE: Manchester United 3, AC Milan 2— Ronaldinho gave Milan an early lead, but a freak goal from Paul Scholes put United level before Wayne Rooney scored twice in the second half. Clarence Seedorf halved the deficit late on.
