UEFA Champions League: Manchester United vs. Bayern Munich

Manchester United vs Bayern Munich UEFA Champions LeagueTwo of the most successful teams in European football meet tonight as Manchester United and Bayern Munich (Munchen) compete in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie at the Allianz Arena.

“It’s a game with two clubs with great history and it puts an edge on the game,” United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said. “You cannot forget the record of Bayern in Europe.”

The Red Devils go into the clash as strong favorites after a convincing victory against AC Milan in the last round. A win for United against the Bundesliga heavyweights would be a tournament record seventh straight victory on their travels that dates back exactly 12 months.

Bayern’s major advantage is their defensive quartet, but despite the German side’s dominating defense, the Red Devils overpower them in attack and midfield.

United fans should rejoice because Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand are back to full fitness after missing Saturday’s 4-0 win at Bolton with a bruised foot and groin injury respectively.

The match kicks-off at 20:45 CET.

UPDATE: The Red Devils were outplayed for much of the game and they lost 2-1 to Bayern Munich in the first leg of their quarter-final clash.
