In February, Jean Makoun scored a brilliant second-half goal as Lyon beat Madrid 1-0 in the first leg of Champions League’s round of 16. Tonight, Real Madrid have to come from behind to eliminate Lyon.

Real Madrid will be playing in the absence of striker Karim Benzema who is still recovering from a groin injury. Other injured player who will miss the game include Royston Drenthe and Pepe while Marcelo and Xabi Alonso were suspended.

For the Lyon squad, Francois Clerc and Cleber Anderson will be sidelined due to injury while midfielder Cesar Delgado is expected to make his appearance.

Christiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid’s most expensive player and this season’s top scorer with six goals branded the Wednesday match as “do-or-die”.

“Wednesday’s match is do-or-die,” said Ronaldo. “We are playing very good football and we have proven that we are the strongest team in La Liga.
“We are familiar with Lyon. They are a strong team physically speaking, but it’s our turn to play at home. I am convinced that this team will respond and that we will make it through to the next round.”
