UFC 119: Frank Mir Stops Mirko Filipovic

Frank Mir labored for more than two rounds before finally landing the killer blows that halted Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic in their UFC 119 match over the weekend at the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Fans booed both Mir and Filipovic for most of the match as the fighters failed to generate the action expected from them. Filipovic tried to force the action early in the third round as he trailed 20-18 on all three score cards after two rounds. However, Mir landed a knee to the face that had Filipovic falling on his back. Mir followed the knee with a strike to the chin of Filipovic and was ready to inflict more punishment when the referee finally stopped the fight with 4:02 gone in the third round.

After the fight, Mir said that he was not happy despite the win, as he failed to perform as expected. “I’ll make the statement that a shooting win is better than a shooting loss. With that being said, other than that, I’m not happy at all,” he said.

In the other main match, Ryan Bader defeated Antonio Rogerio Nogueira via unanimous decision. He remains undefeated in 12 MMA fights.
