UFC 131: Dos Santos vs. Carwin
Junior Dos Santos will try to preserve his unbeaten record in the Ultimate Fighting Championship when he takes on Shane Carwin in the main event of UFC 131 on June 11 at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
The winner of the Dos Santos vs Carwin heavyweight match is expected to get a chance at dethroning reigning heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez. The Dos Santos-Carwin battle is not expected to last the distance as both fighters are known for their striking prowess and high knockout percentage. Dos Santos has fought beyond two rounds only twice in 13 MMA matches, winning all but one of them. Carwin, on the other hand, won his first 12 MMA matches in the first round before losing to Brock Lesnar in the second round when they fought at UFC 116 in July last year. The 26-year-old Dos Santos has the advantage in the stand-up battle due to his superior speed, but the 36-year-old Carwin will most likely have the upper hand if the fight ends up on the ground.
UFC 131 also features four main supporting bouts, including a featherweight match between Kenny Florian and Diego Nunes. Jon Olav Einemo will face Dave Herman in a battle of heavyweights, while Demian Maia and Mark Munoz clash in a middleweight match. The Donald Cerrone-Vagner Rocha lightweight bout rounds out the UFC 131 main card.
