UFC 131 Results: Dos Santos Dumps Carwin

UFC-131-Dos-Santos-vs-CarwinJunior Dos Santos turned the face of Shane Carwin into a bloody mess en route to a lopsided unanimous victory in the main event of UFC 131 on Saturday at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada.

In a fight that was not expected to go the distance, Dos Santos began to find his stride late in the first round when he brought down Carwin with a two-punch combination. Brazilian Dos Santos then peppered Carwin’s head with 40 or so punches, but referee Herb Dean allowed the American to continue despite having a bloodied face.

Action slowed down a notch in the second round, but Dos Santos continued to dominate with strikes. Carwin, whose previous 13 fights ended in the second round or earlier, landed a number of his power shots to keep the younger Dos Santos at bay. Dos Santos punctuated his dominance in the third round with two powerful takedowns, as he showed that he could beat former wrestling champ Carwin in his own game. The judges gave the fight to Dos Santos, 30-27, 30-27, 30-26, and the Brazilian earned a shot at Cain Velazquez’s heavyweight title. “Much respect for Cain Velasquez. Cain, I’m coming for you,” Dos Santos, now 7-0 in the UFC, said after the match.
