UFC 132: Cruz vs. Faber

UFC 132 – Cruz vs. Faber: It will be payback time when Dominick Cruz defends his UFC Bantamweight title against old rival Urijah Faber in the main card of UFC 132 on Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The last time these two fighters met, the end came quickly, with Faber sneaking in a guillotine choke for a submission victory against Cruz that allowed him to retain his then WEC Featherweight belt. However, that was way back in March 2007 and a lot of things have changed. For one, Cruz will be the defending champion, having won all of his eight matches since that loss to Faber. The 32-year-old Faber, on the other hand, has struggled to maintain his form, losing three of his last seven fights.

Cruz has been particularly impressive since he absorbed that loss to Faber. All of Cruz’s opponents over the last three years, with the exception of Joseph Benavidez, have lost to the 25-year-old either via knockout or lopsided decisions. In his last fight, Cruz shut out Scott Jorgensen to become the inaugural UFC bantamweight champion. However, Faber remains a tough match up for Cruz, especially if the fight becomes a grappling match.

In the end, the match could be decided on who will control the pace of the match. The key for Cruz is to keep the fight off the ground, while Faber would benefit more if he could put the champion on the defensive with his back against the cage.
