UFC 133: Its Tito Ortiz vs Rashad Evans
Tito Ortiz has accepted UFC honcho Dana White’s offer to face former light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans in the main card of UFC 133 on August 6 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
After initially rejecting the offer, Ortiz said he accepted the short notice to honor his commitment to the UFC. “Honestly, the biggest difference for me and why I took the fight was my commitment to the UFC — showing them I’m there when they need me. We’ve gone through some stuff but we fixed it and I’m there for them,” Ortiz told ESPN.com. Ortiz, who is coming off a career-saving submission victory over Ryan Bader at UFC 132, said that he initially rejected the offer because he was looking forward to spending time with his family and focusing on his clothing business.
The Ortiz vs Evans match up will be an opportunity to settle unfinished business in the octagon between the two fighters, who fought to a draw in 2007 at UFC 73. Evans, who hasn’t fought since a May 2010 decision win over Quinton Jackson, said he is looking forward to meeting Ortiz again. “I’m thankful that Tito decided to accept this fight and put it all on the line,” he said. “Having a chance to fight Tito again, it feels like Christmas.”
