UFC 135 Results: Jones Retains Light Heavyweight Title
UFC light heavyweight title Jon Jones dominated Quinton “Rampage” Jackson for three rounds before forcing the challenger to tap out with a rear-naked choke in their championship fight in the main event of UFC 135.
Jones’s victory on Saturday further strengthened his claim as the UFC’s top fighter today. The win lined up Jones for a match against Rashad Evans, although no date has been set yet for the clash. The 24-year-old Jones landed jabs and kicks almost at will against the older Jackson, who failed to break into his opponent’s solid defense. Jones typified his dominance with an elbow that opened a cut over Jackson’s right eye. With his opponent outclassed and blooded, Jones went for the kill in the fourth round and finally caught Jackson with the choke that ended the fight 1:14 in the fateful round.
After the fight, Jackson had nothing but praises for the light heavyweight champion, admitting that despite being in his “best” shape, he was no match for Jones. “I expected to come out here and close the distance and overthrow Jon Jones. I thought it was hype, but the kid is good,” Jackson said. “The kid is here to stay. Whoever is fighting him next, I don’t see [anybody] beating him. This was the best Rampage and he had me mesmerized.”
