UFC 137: Diaz vs Penn Headlines Retooled Fight Card

After several changes caused by injuries among other things, UFC 137 has been finalized with Penn vs. Diaz promoted to main event on October 29 in Las Vegas. BJ Penn will take on Nick Diaz on the headliner with Cheick Kongo going up against Matt Mitrione in one of the supporting fights.

Previously, Diaz was supposed to face Georges St-Pierre for the welterweight championship. UFC honcho Dana White pulled Diaz out of the fight after the fighter failed to show up in several press conferences for the main event. White then promoted Carlos Condit to the main event to face St-Pierre while relegating Diaz to a supporting bout against B.J. Penn. But as luck would have it, or bad luck depending on which side of the coin you are looking at, St-Pierre was injured and had to pull out of the fight. White also decided to let Condit wait for St-Pierre to recover, elevating the Penn vs Diaz fight to the main event.

Other fights on the main card are: Mirko Filipovic vs Roy Nelson, Scott Jorgensen vs Jeff Curran, and Hatsu Hioki vs George Roop.
