UN approves one size fits all phone chargers
Cellphone users constantly face the danger of running out of batteries. And since we usually don’t bring our chargers with us, we tend to borrow from others. However, most chargers work with specific phones and most of the time, no one around has the same kind of handset.
But don’t worry, here’s some good news. A new charger that can be used on any future phone has been approved by UN’s telecom body.
The new device, which has a micro-USB port at the connecting end, will also reduce the amount of energy consumed while charging, according to the International Telecommunication Union.
“This is a significant step in reducing the environmental impact of mobile charging, which also has the benefit of making mobile phone use more straightforward,” Malcolm Johnson, director of ITU’s telecommunication standardization bureau, said in a statement.
“Universal chargers are a commonsense solution that I look forward to seeing in other areas,” he added.
Well, this should eliminate the piles of unused chargers we tend to accumulate in our drawers as we change our handset over the years.
