UN Climate Body Admits Wrong Estimate on Himalayan Glaciers

UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has admitted that it mistakenly put the date 2035 as the year that the Himalayan glaciers will completely melt.himalayan-glaciers-2

Many scientists think that the claim is not correct.

It is believed that the mistake started when the panel used a report made by environmental group WWF. The report has picked it up from an article in New Scientist Magazine where Indian glaciologist Syed Iqbal Hasnain was supposedly been quoted to have made the assertion of the 2035 “deadline.”

Hasnain claimed that he was misquoted. He claims that what he said is that ice glacier mass will be declining in 40 years. He also explained that the reason he didn’t clarify things sooner was that he didn’t know that he was already being misquoted. There was also no name given as a source when the magazine article misquoted him.
