US Dominates Angola to Reach World Championship Quarterfinals

Chauncey Billups, Kevin Durant, Eric Gordon, and Rudy Gay all scored at least 17 points each as the Americans finally played up to par in a 121-66 victory over Angola on Monday.

The victory earned the US a quarterfinal meeting with Russia, which defeated New Zealand, 78-56, also on Monday. Durant scored all of his 17 points in the first half while Billups added 16 of his 19 during the first two periods to give the US a fast start, which was non-existent in the Americans’ last two games in the group stage.

The Americans will try to move one win closer of bagging the World Championship for the first time since 1994 when they clash with the Russians on Thursday. However, the real challenge awaits the US in the semifinals, where they could face any one between Lithuania, China, Argentina, or Brazil.

The 2010 FIBA World Championship, which is being held in Turkey, will end on September 12.
