After a long and awful debate, the US House of Representatives on Saturday night passed a sweeping healthcare bill by a vote of 220-215. Only one Republican, Representative Joseph Cao of Louisiana, supported the House measure. 39 Democrats opposed it, including 24 members of the Blue Dog Coalition.
The landmark vote was a huge step for President Barack Obama, who has staked much of his political capital on the healthcare battle.
