US Mother Sent Back Adopted Son to Russia
A case regarding the adoption of a boy from Russia by an American mother hit the news when she sent back the boy to Moscow unaccompanied after he stayed with her for seven months.
Artyom Savelyev or Justin Artyom Hansen, seven years old, was put by adoptive mother Torry Hansen all alone in an airplane flight from Washington to Moscow, Thursday, April 8, with a letter addressed to the Russian Education Ministry.
The letter said: “… I am sorry to say that for the safety of my family, friends and myself, I no longer wish to parent this child. As he is a Russian national, I am returning him to your guardianship.” She further stated that the Savelyev is violent and mentally unstable.
Hansen is from Shelbyville, Tennessee.
State department officials are troubled about the case and Tennessee officials went to the house of Hansen to ask her about what happened. However, her lawyers said she will meet with them next week.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev stated about the incident, “It is a monstrous deed on the part of his adoptive parents.”
