US Open 2009: Roger Federer vs. Lleyton Hewitt

World No.1 Roger Federer takes on Lleyton Hewitt in the third round of the U.S. Open this afternoon at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The two set up another showdown by winning their second-round matches. Federer defeated Simon Greul 6-3, 7-5, 7-5, while Hewitt crushed Juan Ignacio Chela 6-3, 6-3, 6-4.

They have met 22 times and the Swiss tennis ace leads their head-to-head series 15-7. Federer has won an amazing 13 in-a-row against the 28-year-old Australian.

Hewitt, the 2001 U.S. Open champion and former No. 1, has climbed back to 32nd in the rankings after a series of injuries.

Federer—owner of a record 15 Grand Slam crowns—hasn’t lost at the U.S. Open since a fourth-round setback against David Nalbandian in 2003.

UPDATE: Federer has overcome an error-filled first set to beat Hewitt 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 and make the fourth round of the tournament.
