US Open 2009: Roger Federer vs. Tommy Robredo
Roger Federer’s well-deserved win against Lleyton Hewitt at the U.S. Open brings him to his next challenger, 14th-ranked Tommy Robredo of Spain, in round four at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Robredo dashed the hopes of American James Blake and of all his friends and family in Flushing Meadows with an easy victory, and so he will be the one to face the world No.1 this afternoon.
It will be the ninth career encounter between the two tennis veterans. Federer is perfect against the 27-year-old Spaniard, including 5-0 on hard courts. In those 8 clashes, Robredo has only won 2 individual sets and that makes Roger’s fourth round match look like an easy one.
This contest is scheduled to take place sometime after 2:30 p.m. ET, at which time the Melanie Oudin vs. Nadia Petrova match would have concluded.
UPDATE: Federer booked a quarter-final clash against Robin Soderling with a 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 win over Tommy Robredo.
