USA vs. Egypt FIFA Confederations Cup 2009

Egypt can book their place in the knock-out stages of the FIFA Confederations Cup tonight when they take on the United States soccer team in Rustenburg, South Africa.

The Americans have no points and has to beat the African champions by at least three goals to make up a poor goal differential through 2 games. On the other hand a draw would be enough to put Egypt through to the semifinals if Brazil beats reigning World Cup champion Italy in the other group game.

The Pharaohs are in radiant form and firmly established themselves as the surprise of this tournament. After giving the South Americans an almighty fright in their opener in Bloemfontein, they did not let their heads drop, upsetting the Italians 1-0 with a 40th minute goal from Mohamed Soliman.

The game starts at 8:30 p.m. local time (2:30 p.m. ET).

UPDATE: The United States pulled off a miracle! The Americans defeated Egypt, 3-0 and advanced to the semifinals of the Confederations Cup. With Brazil beating Italy 3-0 in the other game, the U.S. will now go against Spain in in the next round.
