USA vs. Spain FIFA Confederations Cup Semifinals

The United States and Spain will face off in the FIFA Confederations Cup semifinal tonight in Bloemfontein, South Africa.

The Spaniards enter another match as hot favorites having won all the games at this year’s tournament. They have also won 15 matches in a row and are riding a 35-match unbeaten streak dating to November 2006, which ties the record set by Brazil thirteen years ago.

But the reigning European champions should not take the U.S. soccer team lightly. After reaching the semifinals in unlikely fashion, the Americans have less pressure. They have nothing to lose. And you can never completely rule out these guys who are playing a match the Internet has dubbed “Megabowl”.

The game starts at 20:30 local time (02:30 ET).

UPDATE: The Americans pulled off a huge upset in the semifinals of the Confederations Cup as they defeated Spain, 2-0. Jozy Altidore scored in the 27th minute and Clint Dempsey added a goal in the 74th as the United States became the first team to defeat Spain since Romania in November 2006.

The U.S. will play the winner of Thursday night’s other semi-final between Brazil and South Africa.
