Venus Williams Provides French Open Sideshow with Revealing Outfit
Venus Williams is turning heads at the French Open, but not only for her powerful play but also for her outfit that belongs more to Paris’ Moulin Rouge than on the courts of Roland Garros. Williams, who advanced to the third round after a routine 6-2 6-4 win over Spain’s Arantxa Parra Santonja, wore a corset-like outfit for the second-straight match.
The second-seeded American pairs the lacey outfit with a flesh-colored under garment that makes her butt appear naked. “The design has nothing to do with the rear. It just so happens that I have a very well developed one,” Williams jokingly told reporters after her second-round match.
Williams’ outfit has raised some debates about its appropriateness, especially on Wednesday, when the crowd at Roland Garros included many schoolchildren who came with their teachers. Williams defended her use of the tight, flesh-colored undergarment, saying that her outfit represents her personality more than anything else. “I try to represent what I think my personality is on the court,” she said.
