Vettel Retains Japanese Grand Prix Title
Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel edged team mate Mark Webber to retain his Japanese Grand Prix title on Sunday and gain precious points that pushed him up to third place in the race for the drivers’ title.
Vettel finished the 53-lap race nine-tenths of a second ahead of Webber, while Fernando Alonso of Ferrari came in 2.7 seconds later. McLaren team mates Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton finished in fourth and fifth places, respectively, as the top five contenders for the title all finished in the top five.
Webber still leads the drivers’ title race with 220 points. Vettel and Alonso have 206 points each, but the Ferrari driver is in second place as he has won more races. Hamilton is in fourth place with 192 while Button, the defending drivers’ title holder, is fifth with 189 points.
The drivers will be back in action on October 24 for the Korean GP followed by the Brazilian GP on November 7 before closing the season on November 14 in Abu Dhabi.
