Authorities say 49 people died after a Continental Airlines plane crashed into a home late Thursday in Buffalo, New York.
Flames went off from the remnants of the house and aircraft as firefighters sought to control the inferno.
CNN reports that the Q400 Bombardier aircraft crashed about 10:20 p.m., hitting a home and bursting into a fireball.
There were 44 passengers and four members of the crew on board. The crash also killed one person on the ground.
Flight 3407 departed from Newark, N.J., for the Buffalo Niagara International Airport, when it crashed in the town of Clarence Center, N.Y.
It was a high-pitched sound,” an area resident told CNN. “It felt like a mini-earthquake.”
