Alas! Video calls are now legally possible on the iPhone via Fring application BUT it’s only one way! Oh crap!

An updated Fring app now supports video conferencing on the iPhone using Wi-Fi and it works on Fring to Fring and Skype to Fring. Fring is a free chat client for iPhone that supports most standards.

Sounds great but it’s not bi-directional. It means you would be able to see whoever is calling you from a desktop, but you won’t be able to transmit your video to the other party. Why? It’s because our beloved iPhone doesn’t have a front camera!

No face-to-face video conferencing for iPhone owners out there but if you want to give it a try here’s the iTunes link for Fring.
