Video Games Badge for Boy Scouts

video gamesNowadays, kids can get rewarded by playing video games, and that’s form an honorable organization called Boy Scouts of America.

The award is the “video game badge”, a belt loop badge (pictured) and not a full-fledged merit badge. To get the “honor” one must demonstrate knowledge of the video game rating system, creating a schedule balancing gaming with schoolwork and chores, and learning to play any new video game that is approved by a parent, guardian or teacher.”

Only the Cub Scouts can get the merit though. The incentive has a goal to encourage gamers into the scouting program. Estimates indicate that boys play 7 hours of video games on the average. Current membership stands at 3 million, which is 25% down compared to ten years ago.

An almost similar citation is available for the Girl Scouts of the USA. The “couch potatoā€¯ award. This is achieved by listing the following: kinds of television watched, personal reactions to the shows, snacks consumed during the watching, commercials shown.
