Ukraine’s Vitali Klitschko successfully defended his WBC heavyweight title on Saturday night with a unanimous points victory over American contender Kevin Johnson.
Two judges gave Klitschko (39-2, 37 KOs) all 12 rounds, while another somehow found a round to score for the challenger.
The 38-year-old won on unanimous decision scores of 120-108, 120-108 and 119-109. The Daily Contributor scored it 120-108 as well.
Klitschko said: “I’m not happy because I prepared to knock him out, but I’m happy I won every round.”
Johnson (22-1-1, 9 KOs) clearly has fast hands, but was in too deep against the champ. He put up a good fight in front of 18,000 crowd in Berne, Switzerland though— becoming only the second opponent to go the 12-round distance with ‘Dr. Ironfist’.
Klitschko retired in 2005 with a knee problem, but announced his comeback in 2008. He regained his WBC title in October last year in Germany, defeating Samuel Peter.
