Wade, James Sizzle as Heat Eliminate Celtics
Dwyane Wade scored 34 points and LeBron James added 33 to lead the Miami Heat to a series-clinching victory over the Boston Celtics Wednesday night in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Wade delivered the points for the Heat in the first three quarters, but allowed James to take over in the fourth period, when Miami limited Boston to only 14 points. Facing elimination, the Celtics came out firing off the gates to lead by eight, 24-16, after the first quarter, but Miami responded in the second period to trail by just two, 49-47, at halftime.
Everything was even in the third period, before James took over in the fourth quarter. James hit a three pointer with the game tied at 87-87 and the time down to 2 minutes and 10 seconds. The two-time MVP followed it up with another three and two more baskets from close range to seal the victory and the series.
The Heat, who also got 14 points and 11 rebounds from Chris Bosh, will face either the Chicago Bulls or the Atlanta Hawks in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Bulls can clinch the series with a win over the Hawks in Game 6 Thursday.
