Lakers vs. Magic Game 1 NBA Finals
Kobe Bryant is ready to strike as his Los Angeles Lakers get ready to host the Orlando Magic tonight in Game 1 of the 2009 NBA Finals.
The Lakers return to the Finals for the 30th time in franchise history and for the second consecutive season.
The Magic are in the championship for the first time since their Finals debut in 1995, when they were swept by the Houston Rockets.
The fact that Orlando won both regular season meetings over LA, therefore, could give the Magic a confidence edge going into the best-of-seven face-off. And in the past five seasons, such an edge has helped somewhat.
But the Lakers are not just playing for championship. They’re also playing for legacy and immortality!
Kobe definitely wants this. He’s not looking for a repeat performance of last years NBA Finals odds matchup when Los Angeles lost to the Boston Celtics. He’s 30 years old and this could be his last and best shot at winning another title.
Prediction: The Lakers will win Game 1.
The game starts 9 p.m. ET.
UPDATE: Kobe Bryant scored 40 points, eight assists and eight rebounds to lift the Los Angeles Lakers to a 100-75 victory against the Orlando Magic in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday night.
