Winter Olympics 2010 Live Stream: The stage is set for the 21st Olympic Winter Games, which will be held on February 12–28 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. And before the best athletes in the world ski, skate, snowboard, and slide for 17 days, let us give you a preview on what to expect in this major international sporting event.
The games open Friday night at BC Place Stadium— the first ever indoor opening ceremony in the history of Winter Olympics. It is located on the north side of False Creek and has been the home to the Canadian Football League’s BC Lions since 1983. According to reports, Canadians Nelly Furtado, Sarah McLachlan and Bryan Adams are some of the artists who might perform at the inauguration.
It doesn’t get all that cold in Vancouver, and it’s a bit weird to come for the Winter Games and realize it’s possible you’ll never actually see a flake of snow. But the good news is temperatures have dropped and snow is expected. The bad news is that fog is likely to roll in, as well. Friday will see a mix of snow and rain as the high reaches 3 C.
Despite its supremacy at the Summer Games, the United States historically has been a second-tier Winter Olympic nation as it has been pushed around in more traditional snow pursuits by Germany, Norway, Russia and Austria.
Lindsey Vonn, the reigning overall World Cup ski champion, said that she is not certain if she could compete. The 25-year-old is suffering from a severely bruised shin which she acquired while training in Austria last week.
The shin (the front portion of the lower leg) is a crucial part of how a skier transfers energy to her ski. Vonn has taken a variety of medications to alleviate some of the pain, her husband said.
