2009 Wimbledon Championships
The 2009 Wimbledon Championships is here again! This year ‘s Wimbledon is the 123rd edition of the Wimbledon Championships, and the third Grand Slam event of the year. It will take place at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London, England, United Kingdom, from Monday, June 22, through Sunday, July 5, 2009.
Defending champion Rafael Nadal withdrew from Wimbledon after failing to recover from chronic tendinitis. His aching knees forced him out of the Queen’s Club warm-up event and after two losses at the Hurlingham exhibition tournament this week, he decided to pull out.
Since there will be no Nadal in this year’s Wimbledon, World No. 3 Andy Murray have a reason to believe he will end Britain’s 73-year wait for a men’s singles. Roger Federer on the other hand, hopes to bring home his 15th Grand Slam, which would take him past Pete Sampras for the most all-time.
Nadal becomes the first since Goran Ivanisevic in 2002 not to defend his title.
