Wayne Rooney Injury ‘Minor’

Wayne Rooney could return in time for the World Cup in June, as tests show that the England striker suffered no serious injury during Manchester United‘s 2-1 loss to Bayern Munich in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal showdown on March 30.

Manchester United officials have confirmed that Rooney suffered “only minor ligament damage,” but they have yet to announce how long the 24-year-old will be out. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to reveal the full extent of Rooney’s injury during a press conference at Carrington on Friday. Some experts expect Rooney to be out by no more than a month.

However, that would mean the striker will be watching from the sidelines four of the Red Devils’ final Premier League matches, including a very important match against Chelsea over the weekend. Rooney could also be out for the second leg of United’s Champions League tie with Bayern on April 7.
