Wayne Rooney Says to Be Ready for World Cup
Injured England and Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has assured fans that he will be ready by June 11, when the South Africa World cup kicks off. Rooney is currently nursing a groin injury that could sideline him for the rest of the Premier League season. He also watched helplessly as Manchester United was eliminated by Bayern Munich in the ongoing UEFA Champions League.
Rooney, who was recently voted the Premier League’s Player of the Year at the Professional Footballers’ Association Awards in London, said that “the groin will be fine for the World Cup, there are no worries about that.” He also expressed hope that he could play in United’s last match. Man U is currently engaged in a neck-and-neck battle against Chelsea for the Premier League pennant. Chelsea is ahead by one point after an overwhelming, 7-0, victory over Stoke on Sunday. However, Chelsea is set to face Liverpool. Rooney hopes Liverpool will win against Chelsea to allow United to move ahead in the table with a victory against Sunderland on May 2.
