Will Smith, Son Jaden, to Star in New M. Night Shyamalan Film

Will Smith and his son, Jaden, are combining their box-office powers in an upcoming film by director M. Night Shyamalan, whose last several projects have been panned by many critics.

In a press release announced by Sony Pictures on Monday, Shyamalan said that having Will and Jaden in one film is a dream project. “The chance to make a scary, science-fiction film starring Jaden and Will is my dream project,” he said. Sony said the film is set a thousand years in the future, with Will and Jaden playing father and son estranged from each other.

Will and Jaden are proven box-office draws, with the younger Smith showing last year that he could carry a film on his own when his “The Karate Kid” reboot earned close to $360 million worldwide from a budget of only $40 million. Shyamalan, on the other hand, has been having a rough time pleasing critics as of late, with his last three films, “Lady in the Water,” “The Happening,” and “The Last Airbender,” receiving almost universal negative reviews.
