Winona Ryder to Appear in New Ron Howard Comedy
Winona Ryder may be on the way to regaining the luster of her star. Ryder, who experienced the zenith of her career in the 1990s, has reportedly been cast as the female lead in a Ron Howard film that stars comedians Kevin James and Vince Vaughn.
Reports said Ryder auditioned twice for the role of James’s cheating wife, beating out the likes of Kate Beckinsale, Uma Thurman, and Carla Gugino. Vaughn plays the best friend of Smith’s character. The film, previously titled “Cheaters,” is set to begin filming next month in Chicago.
Ryder achieved critical acclaim in the 1990s with “The Age of Innocence,” “Little Women,” and “Reality Bites.” Her career took a tumble after she was arrested in 2001 for shoplifting designer clothes at Saks Fifth Avenue. Since then, she has played only bit roles in several films and has failed to get the same success she had in the 1990s. However, she has been busy as of late, wrapping up work on the Natalie Portman-starrer “Black Swan.” She is also set to appear on the CBS period drama mini-series “When Love is Not Enough: The Lois Wilson Story.”
