World Cup 2010: Algeria vs. Slovenia Live Stream [UPDATED]
Algeria and Slovenia are underdogs to advance past England and the United States in Group C, meaning getting off to a good start is essential. And both sides are hungry for three points after the group’s opening match between the Three Lions and USA ended in a stalemate.
However, their place in the record books is assured because this will be the first time that a World Cup match will be played on a surface partly consisting of artificial grass. How’s that for consolation?
Spain, South Africa and Paraguay defeated Slovenia in 2002, but many football experts believe they can turn the tide against opponents considered the weakest of six African title contenders. Matjaz Kek’s squad had to overcome Russia to earn a spot in the World Cup for the second time and have recently beaten Qatar and New Zealand in warm-up friendlies.
The Desert Foxes, meanwhile, are the only participants from the Arabic north of Africa, and have been fighting injuries in the build-up to the tournament. But having made it this far at the expense of current African champions Egypt, Rabah Saadane’s side will be confident of posting a victory at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Kick-off is set for 1:30 pm local time (7:30 am Eastern Time in the U.S.).
UPDATE: Slovenia defeated Algeria 1-0 with a late goal from Robert Koren.
