World Cup 2010: Greece vs. Nigeria Live Stream [UPDATED]
Greece and Nigeria go into their Group B clash today knowing that defeat at the Free State Stadium will almost certainly spell the end of their 2010 FIFA World Cup hopes. Both sides will target a win here to get back on track. Not even a draw will do, so they must go for three points.
Going into the match both teams have one yellow-carded player: Vasilios Torosidis for Otto Rehhagel’s side and Lukman Haruma for Nigeria. But the situation appears to be even more crucial for Greece. South Korea defeated the Euro 2004 champions 2-0, while Argentina edged out Nigeria 1-0. The Greeks have lost all four games they have played in the World Cup. They have failed to score and have conceded 12 goals.
The Super Eagles will pitch the same squad who started against the South Americans, with Everton’s Joseph Yobo and Bolton’s Danny Shittu in the heart of the back four, while Marseille defender Taye Taiwo will start at left back despite stubbing his toe in the defeat to Argentina. The Eagles are considered one of the giants of African football but they didn’t look to be so in their opening game.
Greece, meanwhile, is likely to add some power with centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos and defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos, who can add a bigger obstacle for the West Africans.
The match kicks-off at 16:00 CET (10:0 a.m. ET).
UPDATE: Greece claimed its first World Cup win by beating Nigeria 2-1 in Group B.
