World Cup 2010: Italy vs. Slovakia Live Stream [UPDATED]
Reigning World Cup champions Italy go into their final Group F match with Slovakia knowing victory will guarantee progression, but even a draw would do as long as Paraguay beat New Zealand.
Italy has won the World Cup four times. Fabio Cannavaro and company weren’t among the favorites to retain the title but few expected them to struggle so badly in the group stage. The last time the Azzurri didn’t advance from the first round was 1974.
According to some reports, coach Marcello Lippi would present a changed lineup in a 4-3-3 formation, an attacking weapon unusual for the Italians, who are known for their defense.
It has also been a slow start for the Slovaks, who are making their debut in the World Cup as an independent nation. They have managed just one point from their opening two games – drawing with New Zealand, before being defeated 2-0 by Paraguay. For a team of their quality, they were certainly expected to do much better than they have done so far in this tournament..
“We lost against Paraguay because we weren’t bold enough up front, so we need to be more positive against Italy,” coach Wladimir Weiss said.
What do you think? Can Italy get through?
The game at Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg starts at 16:00 CET (10:00 a.m ET).
UPDATE: Italy was eliminated from the World Cup with a humbling 3-2 defeat to Slovakia, which advanced to the round of 16.
