World Cup 2010: Uruguay vs. Ghana Live Stream [UPDATED]
Ghana, Africa’s last hope at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, will take on Uruguay this evening for a spot in the semi-finals and President Jacob Zuma has called on South Africans to unite and blow their vuvuzelas in support of the Black Stars. If they win, they’ll become the continent’s first-ever semifinalist.
“We’ve made everybody proud,” Rennais striker Asamoah Gyan told reporters. “Not Ghana alone, but the whole of Africa.”
Milovan Rajevac’s side defeated the United States 2-1 to advance to the quarterfinals. Michael Essien was ruled out long before the tournament started, but the performances of Andre Ayew and Kevin-Prince Boateng lifted the entire team. Uruguay, on the other hand, beat South Korea 2-1 to progress to the last eight for the first time since 1970.
La Celeste should be able to get past Ghana, but the Black Stars have all 53 nations in Africa behind them, and that’s a great advantage.
The match kicks-off at 20:30 CET (2:30 p.m. ET).
UPDATE: Uruguay beat Ghana 4-2 in a penalty shoot out after the teams played a 1-1 draw following 120 minutes of play. La Celeste will meet the Netherlands in the semifinals in Cape Town next Tuesday.
