World Cup 2010: Uruguay vs. South Korea Live Stream [UPDATED]
The World Cup’s knockout stages start today and those teams who qualified know that one mistake could be the difference between elimination and progression.
Two-time World Cup champions Uruguay take on South Korea at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on the back of their awe-inspiring performances in their last group games.
In 2002, the Taeguk Warriors reached the semifinals on home soil for the first time in their history and Park Ji-sung is aiming to get that far again in South Africa. They were thrashed 4-1 by Argentina in this year’s group stages but the Manchester United midfielder said: “The loss against Argentina was a good opportunity to learn how to fight against Latin American teams.”
This is Uruguay’s first trip to the last 16 since 1990. Oscar Tabarez’s men defeated Mexico and South Africa and played to a scoreless draw with France in the first round. Yes, South Korea is a good team with good players and with a good touch of the ball, but Uruguay has never lost to the East Asians in four previous meetings.
La Celeste have an almost perfect record against them, winning all four games and conceding only once. The 1-0 win over El Tri on Tuesday gave Tabarez’s side the top spot, and helped them avoid Argentina in this phase.
Which will be more effective, Uruguay’s 4-3-3 formation or South Korea’s 4-4-2 approach? The match kicks-off at 16:00 CET (10:00 a.m. ET).
UPDATE: Ajax striker Luis Suarez scored a brace as Uruguay defeated South Korea 2-1 and advanced to the World Cup quarterfinals for the first time since 1970.
