World Cup: Ghana Knocks Out USA
The stint of the United States at the 2010 FIFA World Cup has ended after Ghana crashed its dreams.
Winning 2-1 at the extra-time, the victory pushed the Black Stars to the quarterfinals, making it the third nation from Africa ever to do so. Cameroon did it in 1996 and Senegal in 2002.
“I am the happiest man in the world. In 2006 we made the second round, now we have gone a step further,” said winning goal scorer Asamoah Gyan after the game. “We have made Ghana proud and the whole of Africa proud.”
US coach Bob Bradley can only say this after losing,” I thought at 1-1 we had a chance, but we didn’t have enough freshness against all of Ghana’s power. We have a great squad. We’re proud but also disappointed not to have gone further.”
Meanwhile, two-time champion Uruguay became the first team to advance to the quarterfinals after defeating South Korea.
For June 27, Argentina faces Mexico and Germany battles England.
